Unicorn Lodge:Riverfront: l Private Waterfall View
San Gerardo de Dota, San José Province, Costa Rica
Unicorn Lodge is a unique Cedar log cabin nestled on the banks of the Sevegre River in the magical town of San Gerardo De Dota, Costa Rica. As dawn turns to daybreak there is nothing more delightful than being drawn from slumber by the sunlight glistening through open windows as it makes it's way through the 200+ year old Oak trees and the enchanting sounds of the powerful Sevegre River echoeing through each corner of the property. One would question if this is the most serene place on earth.
Good to know
The open floor plan and a wall of windows keeps light in during the day, casting halos above the cabin, while at night it erases the division between inside and out, giving you the feeling of floating amongst the stars. The expansive night sky is especially clear on our deck, which hugs the river from above. Cascading waterfalls out your kitchen window and downstairs bedroom are a reminder that you are in paradise. The birdwatching from the deck is world renown. We are often greeted by the rare Quetzal early mornings from the deck. The Sevegre River offers fantastic Trout fishing as it is stocked with 5 species of Rainbow Trout. On the warm days we recommend taking time to jump in the river (the speed and temperature are not for the faint of heart. Being labeled by National Geographic as the cleanest river in Central America it is sure to be an experience you won't forget. Unicorn Lodge sleeps 6 comfortably with a bedroom and bathroom on the main floor and another in the loft. Great for couples, a small family or group of friends. Max 6 persons at any time. We are close to many excellent restaurants and a spa ( all within 5 minutes of the cabin and are very walkable as well) . Our adjoining neighbor offers daily tours to view the Quetzal on their breathtaking fruit farm. There are many breathtaking waterfalls close to the cabin as well which really should be added to your "to do" list while on your stay.

Accessibility and Availability
Neighborhood
Sitting along the foothills of the Talamanca Mountain Range, the small town of San Gerardo de Dota may be lacking in size, but it makes up for it in natural beauty. Travelers come here to hike through the pristine wilderness and view some of the region’s most predominant flora and fauna. The Sevegre river is also stocked with 5 species of Rainbow Trout making this a fly fishermans paradise. This quaint village is one of San Jose’s finest and is quickly becoming one of the most elite tourist destinations in this beautiful country. San Gerardo de Dota is one of the best locations for bird watching opportunities that Costa Rica has to offer. The surrounding cloud forest is a haven for both birds and a vast variety of insect species, both of which likely go hand in hand. Tucked along the Savegre River Valley near Los Quetzals National Park, the community is a hot bed for avian species. In fact, roughly 200 species flock to and from the region, including tanagers, hummingbirds, woodpeckers and the famous resplendent quetzals. No question this place is a haven for birdwatchers. Considered to be among the most striking birds in the world, the quetzals here nest in the nearby cloud forest and can be seen most of the year. Nature enthusiasts will love the dense cloud forests, moss-covered oak trees, tropical plants and extensive network of trails through the region. Due to the diverse eco systems of the area, travelers will find plenty of beautiful spots to snap photos or take the occasional selfie.
